Kaduna State is aiming to increase its monthly Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to N20 billion as the government continues to implement reforms designed to improve tax collection and strengthen public trust.
The Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS), Jerry Adams, made this known while receiving members of the Association of Non-Indigenes Support Group for Governor Uba Sani during a courtesy visit.
During the visit, the association honoured Adams with the title of Grand Patron in recognition of his contributions to revenue growth and public service.
According to Adams, Kaduna has recorded significant progress in revenue generation over the past few years. He revealed that the state’s monthly IGR has grown from an average of N4 billion in 2023 to nearly N9 billion, thanks to ongoing improvements in tax administration and increased confidence in government activities.
He explained that more residents are now willing to pay taxes because they can clearly see how government funds are being invested in key sectors such as road construction, healthcare services, education, and social development programmes.
Adams noted that Governor Uba Sani’s administration remains focused on ensuring that tax revenue is used for projects that directly benefit the people and improve living conditions across the state.
He also assured residents that KADIRS would continue to introduce taxpayer-friendly policies aimed at encouraging voluntary compliance while preventing multiple taxation and other unfair practices.
The revenue chief stressed that paying taxes should be viewed as a collective effort to support development rather than a burden on citizens. He said sustainable growth can only be achieved when both government and residents work together.
Adams further thanked the association for the recognition, describing it as a reflection of the important role non-indigenes play in the economic and social progress of Kaduna State.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to inclusiveness, emphasizing that every resident, regardless of tribe, religion, or place of origin, has a role to play in building a stronger and more prosperous Kaduna.
