The Nigeria Police Force in Ogun State has arrested a father and his son over the theft of a mobile phone worth N180,000 in the Imeko/Afon Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, identified as Fatai Adegbola and his son Waliu Adegbola, were arrested after a complaint was lodged last Friday.
This was confirmed in a statement released on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.
According to the statement, the son allegedly stole the phone from a residential apartment, and operatives quickly tracked him down after receiving the report, recovering the stolen device.
Further investigation led officers to the suspects’ home, where they discovered illegal weapons, including a locally made pistol and a dane gun.
In a related development, police also arrested a 25-year-old man, Inioluwa Adesanya, over the theft of a dane gun belonging to a resident in Ode Remo.
During a routine patrol at Ilisan Remo Roundabout, officers recovered another locally fabricated pistol along with a live cartridge that had been abandoned at the scene.
The command explained that Adesanya allegedly gained access to a complainant’s home by posing as a carpenter’s assistant working on renovation, after which he stole the firearm.
He reportedly confessed during interrogation and also admitted to being a member of the Aye confraternity.
Police said all recovered weapons and exhibits have been secured, while the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
The command also reaffirmed its commitment to tackling violent crime, cultism, armed robbery, and illegal possession of firearms across the state.
Residents were urged to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or emergency contacts.
