President Bola Tinubu has thrown his weight behind Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji ahead of the June 20 governorship election, urging residents to give him another term in office.
The President praised Oyebanji’s leadership style, describing him as a leader who came into office with a clear understanding of the responsibilities of governance and a commitment to improving the lives of the people.
Tinubu’s message was delivered by Vice President Kashim Shettima during a massive APC campaign rally held in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday.
The event attracted a large crowd of party supporters, political allies and residents from different backgrounds who gathered to show support for the governor’s re-election bid.
According to the President, Oyebanji has demonstrated that leadership is about service, humility and respect for the people rather than the misuse of power.
He commended Ekiti residents for their continued support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and described the governor as a worthy leader who has earned the trust of the people through his actions.
Tinubu also highlighted Oyebanji’s relationship with traditional rulers, community leaders and former public office holders, noting that his inclusive style of governance has contributed to his growing popularity across the state.
Calling on voters to turn out in large numbers on election day, the President appealed to them to renew the governor’s mandate and allow him to continue the development projects already underway.
Several APC leaders who attended the rally also expressed confidence in Oyebanji’s chances at the polls.
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, who chairs the APC National Campaign Council, described the governor’s acceptance among the people as remarkable.
Similarly, Chairman of the APC Governors Forum and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma said the ruling party had maintained a strong presence throughout the campaign period by engaging directly with communities across the state.
APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, stated that the party’s optimism ahead of the election was based on Oyebanji’s performance and connection with the electorate.
In his remarks, Governor Oyebanji thanked supporters for their backing and insisted that his campaign was built on the achievements of his administration since taking office in 2022.
The governor said he was seeking another term based on his record in office and the promises he has fulfilled, rather than relying on political influence.
He also appealed for a peaceful and credible election, assuring residents that a second term would bring even greater development and progress to Ekiti State.
