The leader of the United Nigerian Americans Council (UNAC) in Maryland, Dr Chris Ademiluyi, has reaffirmed the group’s commitment to boosting political involvement among Nigerians living in the United States.
She said the organisation, founded in 2019, was created to encourage Nigerians in the diaspora to register as voters, take part in elections, and even contest for political offices in the U.S.
Dr Ademiluyi made this known in a statement shared with Diaspora Tales on Friday, where she spoke on the need to support Nigerians aspiring for political positions abroad.
According to her, UNAC has continued to focus on raising awareness, empowering members, and increasing the political visibility of Nigerians within the American system.
“Our vision continues to guide our efforts in promoting political participation and stronger representation of Nigerians in Maryland,” she said.
She added that the group is actively working to build a more politically aware community that can influence elections and policy decisions in the United States.
Dr Ademiluyi noted that while many members may not support financial donations to political candidates, they strongly believe that voting remains a powerful way to create change.
She explained that for the organisation, the ballot is seen as the most important tool for political influence, especially for diaspora communities seeking representation.
