Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has opened up about the circumstances that led to his removal from the party’s top position.
Speaking during an interview on AIT, the Edo North senator claimed that his exit as APC chairman was finalized through a virtual meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Oshiomhole reflected on his time as party chairman, saying he played a major role in strengthening the APC and helping former President Muhammadu Buhari secure victory in the 2015 general election.
According to him, members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) worked hard to promote the APC’s agenda, mobilize support across the country and address internal political challenges.
He also said the party leadership successfully handled disputes within the National Assembly, including issues involving both the Senate and the House of Representatives, without requiring direct intervention from the president.
The former governor of Edo State explained that party officials were responsible for engaging stakeholders, persuading members and building support for government policies and programmes.
Oshiomhole, however, alleged that after stability returned to the party, efforts were made to remove him from office.
He claimed that when attempts to unseat him through internal party processes failed, some individuals allegedly used a petition said to have been signed by members of his ward, expressing a lack of confidence in his leadership.
The matter eventually went to court, where an interim order was issued against him. Oshiomhole said he challenged the decision and initially secured a favourable ruling from the Court of Appeal.
According to him, the appellate court later revisited the case and restored the earlier order. Shortly afterward, he said he witnessed what he described as a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting conducted virtually from the Presidential Villa, a development he believes paved the way for his removal.
The senator maintained that his ouster came despite the contributions he and his team made to the growth and success of the ruling party.
