President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve the appointment of Joseph Tegbe as a minister in the Federal Government.
The request was officially presented during Tuesday’s plenary session by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who read the president’s letter to lawmakers.
In the letter, Tinubu referred to Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which gives the president the power to nominate ministers, subject to approval by the Senate. He called on lawmakers to quickly review and confirm the nomination.
Alongside Tegbe’s name, the president also asked the Senate to approve Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State, as well as Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
Reports indicate that Tegbe was recently picked to take over the Ministry of Power. His nomination comes after Adebayo Adelabu stepped down from the role to focus on his ambition to contest the Oyo State governorship election in 2027.
Like Adelabu, Tegbe is also from Oyo State. He is widely known for his experience in economic and financial reforms, with over three decades of work across both government and private sectors.
Tegbe previously worked as a Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he handled major projects related to fiscal reforms, institutional development, and governance.
Over the years, he has also provided expert advice to government bodies and private organisations, especially in areas like policy development, regulatory systems, and investment planning.
