Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has advised Mikel Arteta to keep Leandro Trossard at the club while making major changes to his attacking options before the transfer window closes.

Petit believes Arsenal need more quality in the final third if they are to challenge successfully for major trophies next season. According to him, strengthening the wings and adding a proven striker should be among the club’s top priorities.

The Frenchman suggested that players such as Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus could be allowed to leave as part of a squad overhaul, while he also questioned whether Noni Madueke has done enough to justify a long-term place in the team.

Speaking about Arsenal’s current squad, Petit said Trossard remains one player he would hold on to because of his experience, versatility and ability to make an impact in important matches.

He stressed that Arsenal need to improve their attacking depth by bringing in at least two new wingers and a reliable goalscorer capable of delivering consistently throughout the season.

Petit also noted that competition for places is important if Arsenal want to take the next step and compete with Europe’s elite clubs.

The former Gunners star believes the decisions made during this transfer window could play a major role in determining whether Arteta’s side finally ends its wait for major silverware.
