Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed that a large percentage of the infrastructure projects recently delivered in Abuja under President Bola Tinubu’s administration were originally started by previous governments.
Wike made the remark on Tuesday during the inauguration of the newly completed sections of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX), a major road project linking key parts of the nation’s capital.
Speaking at the event, the FCT Minister praised President Tinubu for choosing to complete inherited projects instead of abandoning them for new initiatives.
According to him, nearly 80 percent of the projects commissioned so far by the current administration in the FCT were conceived and started by former administrations but had remained unfinished for years.
Wike said the President’s decision to continue and complete those projects demonstrates responsible leadership and a commitment to delivering results for Nigerians.
He also commended the construction company handling the expressway project for keeping its promise and delivering the work as scheduled.
“I personally visited this project site many times to monitor progress and ensure the contractors stayed true to their commitment. They delivered, and that shows that with determination and commitment, nothing is impossible,” Wike said.
The minister noted that the newly completed road corridor passes through areas affected by long-standing traffic congestion, including the Apo Mechanic Village axis.
He recalled that several administrations had repeatedly promised to relocate traders and artisans operating in the area to create a better environment and ease traffic flow, but those promises were never fulfilled.
Wike said the Tinubu administration has now taken practical steps to address the issue, adding that residents and business owners in the area can already see the difference.
He stressed that good governance is not about discarding projects initiated by predecessors but ensuring that public investments are completed and put to use.
“Many leaders would prefer to start fresh projects for political recognition, but President Tinubu understands that government is a continuous process. What matters is completing projects that will improve the lives of the people,” he stated.
The newly commissioned road is expected to improve transportation, reduce traffic congestion, and boost economic activities across several communities within the Federal Capital Territory.
