Protesting Nigerians on Thursday took to the streets of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, calling for urgent action to secure the release of schoolchildren and teachers kidnapped in Oyo State.
The demonstrators gathered in large numbers and marched through parts of the city while chanting slogans such as “Tinubu must go,” “Rescue them or resign,” and “Bring back our children now.”
Some of the protesters also engaged police officers at the scene, insisting that their demonstration was lawful and urging security operatives to allow them to continue peacefully.
One of the participants, speaking on camera, expressed anger over the situation and called on a passing motorist to record the protest, saying the message should be shared widely online.
He further accused the government of failing to act quickly, insisting that citizens had the right to speak out over insecurity affecting schoolchildren.
The protest comes amid growing public outrage following the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State by armed men.
In reaction to the incident, Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, claimed he was aware of those allegedly responsible for the attack, though he did not provide evidence.
Meanwhile, teachers under the Nigeria Union of Teachers had earlier staged demonstrations across different states, demanding immediate rescue efforts and stronger protection for schools nationwide.
