The management of the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology has cancelled a planned field excursion for students to New Bussa in Niger State due to rising security concerns raised by parents and other stakeholders.
The university explained that the decision was taken by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Musa Tukur Yakasai after carefully reviewing reports about the security situation in the area where Level 400 Fisheries students were expected to carry out their compulsory fieldwork.
In a statement issued by the Deputy Registrar for Information and Public Affairs, Abdullahi Datti Abdullahi, the university said the Vice-Chancellor had already been aware of the security risks and had earlier rejected the idea of the trip.
The institution further directed the Department of Fisheries to immediately identify a safer location for the exercise.
According to the statement, the students will now conduct their practical fieldwork at Tiga Dam in Kano State instead of New Bussa.
The management stressed that the safety and welfare of students remain its top priority both on and off campus.
It also clarified that the university has no intention of sending students to any location considered unsafe or exposed to security threats.
The cancellation followed growing concern from parents who questioned the safety of the originally proposed destination in Niger State.
