The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed more than 56,000 officers across the country ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations to strengthen security and ensure peaceful festivities nationwide.
This was disclosed in a statement released on Tuesday by the Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi, at the NSCDC headquarters in Abuja.
According to the statement, the nationwide operation was approved by the Commandant General of the Corps, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, as part of efforts to protect lives, public facilities, and critical national infrastructure during the festive period.
The security agency said operational vehicles, patrol teams, ambulances, boats, and K9 units have also been deployed to improve emergency response and surveillance in different parts of the country.
To tighten security further, several specialised tactical units of the Corps have been placed on alert. These include the Rapid Response Squad, Female Special Force, Crack Squad, Mining Marshals, and the Special Intelligence Squad.
The NSCDC explained that senior officers have been directed to closely monitor operations in their various zones and states to ensure strict compliance with security plans throughout the celebrations.
Zonal Commanders are expected to coordinate activities with State Commandants, while Area Commanders and Divisional Officers have also been instructed to remain fully active during the period.
The Corps reaffirmed its commitment to working with other security agencies to maintain law and order across the country.
It also appealed to Nigerians to support security efforts by reporting suspicious activities and sharing useful information that could help prevent crime or attacks.
The NSCDC warned individuals planning to disturb public peace or vandalise government property during the Sallah celebrations to stay away from such acts, stressing that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted.
