The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has announced a widespread power outage affecting key parts of Nigeria’s capital, including the Presidential Villa, the Supreme Court, and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The company made the announcement in a notice released on Saturday, explaining that the blackout was caused by a technical fault on the power network.
According to AEDC, several high-profile and residential areas are currently affected, including the State House, Central Area, Asokoro, Garki districts, Maitama, Wuse, and parts of Lugbe, among others.
Important government and diplomatic locations such as the Supreme Court, National Assembly Annex, various embassies, the National Hospital, and security institutions were also listed among the affected areas.
The outage also extended to major roads and streets across Abuja, including areas around Aso Drive, Gado Nasko Road, Airport Road, and surrounding estates and government quarters.
AEDC apologised to customers affected by the disruption, including businesses, embassies, hotels, residential estates, and government offices across the city.
The company further stated that engineers from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) are currently working to restore electricity to the affected areas as quickly as possible.
“We regret the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding,” the company said.
