Real Madrid are reportedly on the verge of completing the signing of Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

The Spanish giants have identified the left-back as a key addition to their defence, with manager Jose Mourinho said to be keen on bringing him to the Santiago Bernabéu.

Madrid have already been active in the transfer market, adding new faces to improve their backline, and Cucurella is expected to be the latest player to join the club’s rebuilding project.

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, a verbal agreement has been reached between all parties involved, including the player, paving the way for the move to go ahead.

Romano reported that Cucurella was one of Mourinho’s preferred targets for the left-back position and that discussions have progressed successfully.

The deal is expected to be finalised after the FIFA World Cup, with the Spain international set to end his time at Chelsea and begin a new chapter in La Liga.

If completed, the transfer would add another experienced and versatile defender to Real Madrid’s squad as they prepare for both domestic and European competitions in the upcoming campaign.
