Bola Tinubu has strongly condemned the deadly attack on schools in Oyo State, where gunmen reportedly killed a school staff member and abducted several teachers and pupils from communities in Oriire Local Government Area.
The President assured Nigerians that the Federal Government is already working closely with the Oyo State Government and security agencies to secure the safe release of all the victims.
The attack reportedly occurred when armed men riding motorcycles invaded Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, Community Grammar School in Ahoro-Esinle, and L.A. Primary School, creating panic across the affected communities.
During the invasion, a staff member was reportedly killed, while a school principal, teachers, and several pupils were abducted by the attackers.
In a statement released on Monday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency confirmed that rescue operations are already ongoing.
According to the statement, security operatives have intensified efforts to track down the kidnappers and rescue the victims safely.
The Presidency also revealed that the Inspector-General of Police has deployed tactical teams and the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) to support the operation.
Tinubu expressed sympathy to Governor Seyi Makinde, the families of the victims, and residents affected by the tragic incident.
The President further promised that those responsible for the attack, including anyone assisting them within the communities, would be arrested and prosecuted.
He stated that the Inspector-General of Police is personally supervising the operation following directives from the Presidency, adding that authorities expect major progress soon.
Tinubu also used the opportunity to renew calls for the creation of state police, saying the growing cases of kidnapping and insecurity show the need for stronger local security systems in underserved areas.
He urged the National Assembly to speed up the process of passing laws that would allow state police to become operational across the country.
