A new leadership crisis has emerged in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa State after the party held parallel ward, local government, and state congresses that produced different executive committees.
The breakaway group, which says it is operating under a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja, also announced the expulsion of several senior party members, including Sabo Mohammed Nakudu, Ahmad Mahmud Gumel, Bashir Adamu, and Abba Anas.
Speaking to journalists after the congress exercise on Friday, faction leader Kabiru Husseini Na Rungo said their actions followed a judgement delivered by Justice Joyce O. Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which he claimed invalidated a previous national convention of the party.
He explained that the court decision stated that those who conducted the earlier convention did not have the legal authority under the party constitution to organise congresses.
Na Rungo also said the ruling supports the right of recognised state chairmen to conduct valid party congresses within their states.
He stressed that his group does not belong to either the David Mark or Nafiu Bala-led factions, insisting that his camp represents the authentic ADC leadership in Jigawa State.
“Today marks a new beginning for our party in Jigawa. We have come together in peace and unity to rebuild the ADC through a transparent and lawful congress process,” he said.
The faction also reaffirmed the expulsion of Mohammed Sani Gumel, accusing him of misconduct and alleging involvement in selling party positions, which they said goes against the party’s values.
Na Rungo added that “ADC is not for sale in Jigawa State,” warning that personal interests would not be allowed to override the will of party members.
Other members also removed from the party include Hon. Adamu Jumbo, Sen. Sabo Nakudu, and Abba Anas Adamu.
He further warned that anyone refusing to recognise the new leadership structure would be considered expelled under the party constitution.
At the end of the congress, Kabiru Hassan was elected state chairman, Ahmad Sankara Gerawa became deputy chairman, while Hon. Abba Champ emerged as vice chairman.
Other elected officials include Ahmed Jamilu as Financial Secretary, Sagir Rabiu Babura as Legal Adviser, and Zubaida Ahmed Gumel as Women Leader.
In his acceptance speech, Kabiru Husseini promised to lead with fairness, transparency, and respect for the ADC constitution.
