The Federal High Court in Abuja has moved further proceedings in the case involving former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, to May 6, 2026.
The matter came up again on Thursday before Justice Emeka Nwite.
At the hearing, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was represented by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kemi Pinheiro, while Yahaya Bello was represented by his lead counsel, Joseph Daudu.
During the session, the prosecution told the court it needed more time to respond to certain applications filed by the defence team. However, the defence lawyers urged the court to proceed with the matter based on their earlier submissions.
After hearing from both sides, Justice Nwite ruled that the case should be adjourned to May 6, 2026. He said the adjournment was necessary to give all parties enough time to prepare and ensure a fair hearing.
Yahaya Bello is facing charges relating to alleged financial mismanagement during his time as governor of Kogi State. He has consistently denied all allegations brought against him.
The trial is expected to continue on the new date set by the court.
