Sam Amadi, Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, has pointed out that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has not yet personally confirmed Rotimi Amaechi as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
Amadi made the observation while reacting to reports that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) had selected the former Rivers State governor as Atiku’s vice-presidential candidate.
In a post shared on his X account, Amadi noted that although the party has announced Amaechi’s nomination, Nigerians are still waiting for Atiku himself to publicly endorse and present him as his running mate.
According to him, an official statement from the presidential candidate would help remove any uncertainty surrounding the ticket.
“@atiku is yet to publicly name @ChibuikeAmaechi as his VP. Maybe he will do so very soon. We are waiting to hear him say it himself,” Amadi wrote.
The ADC had earlier disclosed that Amaechi would partner Atiku in the party’s bid for the presidency in the 2027 general election.
The announcement was made by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, who stated that the decision followed consultations with key stakeholders and coalition members.
Despite the party’s declaration, Atiku has not publicly unveiled Amaechi or issued a personal statement confirming the choice.
This development has continued to attract attention from political observers, with many awaiting an official confirmation directly from the ADC presidential candidate.
