The lawmaker representing Edo North Senatorial District, Adams Oshiomhole, has dismissed claims by former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, that he played a key role in making the late Muhammadu Buhari president in 2015.
Oshiomhole said Amaechi did not even cast a vote for Buhari during the election, contrary to his recent statements about his influence in the victory.
He made the remarks on Sunday during an interview on The Mic On Podcast, where he also linked Amaechi’s political situation at the time to tensions within Rivers State politics.
According to him, Amaechi, who served as the Director-General of Buhari’s presidential campaign, was unable to fully mobilize support in his home state due to the political strength of former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.
Oshiomhole claimed that instead of delivering votes for Buhari, Amaechi allegedly directed his supporters in Rivers State to stay away from the election.
He described Amaechi’s earlier claim that he “made Buhari president” as false, insisting that the former minister did not even participate in voting for the candidate he campaigned for.
Oshiomhole further stated that the political rivalry in Rivers State at the time heavily influenced the outcome of events surrounding the election.
The comments come in response to Amaechi’s recent interview in which he claimed that he, and not President Bola Tinubu, played the most significant role in Buhari’s 2015 victory.
