
Plateau United head coach Gbenga Ogunbote has expressed satisfaction after his side secured a hard-fought victory over Basira FC in the Round of 16 of the President Federation Cup.
The Peace Boys edged past their opponents with a 2-1 win in a closely contested encounter played at the FIFA Goal Project ground in Abuja on Saturday.
Reacting after the match, Ogunbote described the result as an important and rewarding achievement, acknowledging that Basira FC put up a strong fight throughout the game.
The experienced tactician noted that matches against clubs from the Nigeria National League (NNL) are never easy, adding that Basira FC showed quality, determination and a competitive spirit during the encounter.
According to him, his players had to work hard for the victory and remained focused despite the challenges posed by their opponents.
Ogunbote praised the commitment and fighting spirit displayed by his squad, saying their determination played a major role in securing qualification to the next round of the competition.
The coach also reiterated Plateau United’s ambition to go as far as possible in the tournament, stressing that the team remains focused on competing for the title.
While admitting that winning the Federation Cup is the dream of every club still in the competition, he said his team would continue to give its best and see how far their quality and resilience can take them.
With the victory, Plateau United move a step closer to their quest for silverware as they prepare for the next stage of the prestigious national tournament.
