The former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Timi Frank, has accused Nigerian security agencies of allegedly planning to alter audio and video recordings linked to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
In a statement released on Friday, Frank alleged that El-Rufai is currently under heavy surveillance while in detention, claiming that his private conversations with lawyers and family members are being secretly recorded.
He further alleged that some of the recordings are being edited using artificial intelligence tools in a bid to implicate the former governor.
Frank said, “Nasir El-Rufai has been placed under intense surveillance even while in detention.”
He also claimed that operatives from the ICPC, in collaboration with the DSS, allegedly bugged El-Rufai’s detention space and have collected many hours of audio and video recordings.
According to him, these recordings are now being reviewed to pick out sections that could be edited or manipulated.
He alleged that the plan is to use AI technology to distort selected clips and later release them to the media in order to damage El-Rufai’s image.
Frank said the alleged move is aimed at discrediting the former governor and prolonging his time in custody.
He added, “This is part of a wider agenda to destroy El-Rufai’s reputation and keep him detained.”
Meanwhile, reports indicate that El-Rufai is facing separate charges from the ICPC and DSS, including allegations related to national security and corruption. Despite being granted bail, he remains in detention as legal processes continue.
