The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, has urged soldiers of the 2 National Mission Force Brigade to intensify efforts in tackling ongoing insecurity within their operational area, especially in Southern Kaduna.
According to a statement released by Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, the CDS made the charge during an operational visit to the brigade stationed in Samaru, Kataf, Kaduna State.
The visit, the statement explained, was aimed at assessing the readiness of troops for combat operations and identifying challenges affecting their performance in the field.
It added that the mission also focused on strengthening ongoing efforts to eliminate terrorism, kidnapping, cattle rustling, and other criminal activities that were common in the area before the brigade was established in 2024.
While addressing the soldiers, General Oluyede expressed satisfaction with their level of discipline and readiness. He encouraged them to remain professional, focused, and committed to their duties.
He also challenged the troops to come up with new and smarter strategies to stay ahead of criminal groups, stressing the need for proactive action.
According to him, “You must always stay ahead of criminals by predicting their movements and developing effective ways to stop them. We will continue to support you with equipment, tools, and welfare to ensure success.”
The Commander of the 2 National Mission Force Brigade, Navy Captain O.J. Ekuma, earlier briefed the CDS on the achievements of the unit. He said the brigade had successfully neutralized several criminals, recovered weapons and stolen cattle, rescued kidnapped victims, and arrested key bandits and their collaborators.
He also noted that the brigade had restricted the movement of criminal groups within its area of responsibility, leading to improved security in Southern Kaduna and surrounding communities.
As part of the visit, the CDS inspected ongoing projects and military deployments under the Defence Headquarters. He also directed that additional operational equipment and support systems be provided where needed.
General Oluyede was accompanied by senior military officers, including the Chief of Defence Operations, Major General J.H. Abdussalam, and the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Major General E.F. Oyinlola, among others.
The visit highlights the continued commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces leadership to improve troop welfare, close operational gaps, and strengthen overall security operations across the country.
