Nasarawa Amazons produced a strong comeback to defeat defending champions Bayelsa Queens 2-1 in their second match of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Super Six playoffs in Port Harcourt.
The game started evenly, with both sides showing good attacking play in the first half, but neither team was able to convert their chances into goals before the break.
Bayelsa Queens eventually took the lead early in the second half when Chiamaka Ezekwugo found the back of the net just six minutes after restart.
However, Nasarawa Amazons refused to give up and pushed hard for an equaliser as the match entered its final stages.
Their pressure paid off in the 80th minute when Farikikyen Moses scored to bring the game level for Christopher Danjuma’s side.
With momentum on their side, Nasarawa Amazons completed the turnaround in stoppage time through Ayatsea Hembafan, who scored the winning goal to seal all three points.
The result means Nasarawa Amazons now sit on six points from two matches, while Bayelsa Queens have managed just one point from the same number of games in the playoff series.
