Manchester United legend Gary Neville has left out Cristiano Ronaldo while choosing who he believes is the club’s greatest forward of all time.
Neville, who shared the pitch with some of United’s biggest attacking stars during his playing days at Old Trafford—including Ronaldo—made his choice during a chat with former teammate Rio Ferdinand on the YouTube show Rio Meets.
The ex-England defender named Wayne Rooney as the best striker he ever played with at Manchester United.
Neville explained that Rooney stood out because he could do almost everything on the pitch, not just score goals.
“He’s the best, Wazza. The best forward I ever saw at Manchester United,” Neville said.
“He was like a mix of Mark Hughes, Van Nistelrooy, Eric Cantona, Paul Scholes in the half-turn, Dwight Yorke—he had a bit of everything from all the great players.
“He could drop deep, pass the ball, finish chances, head the ball, use both feet, and even sprint back to defend.”
Neville’s comments are already sparking debate among fans, especially with Ronaldo’s name missing from his all-time pick.
