Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has reacted to the abduction of family members of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In a statement released on Wednesday through his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said the incident shows that insecurity in Nigeria has reached a dangerous level where no one is truly safe under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government.
Reports confirm that Adelabu’s sister and her children were kidnapped by unknown gunmen. The Oyo State Police Command has also confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing to rescue the victims.
Atiku strongly condemned the attack and called for the immediate and unconditional release of the abducted family members.
He expressed sympathy with the Adelabu family, saying the incident highlights the worsening security situation across the country.
He also described it as shocking that such an abduction reportedly happened in a busy and well-known area like Challenge Bus Stop in Ibadan, one of the city’s most active locations.
According to him, the situation shows how deeply insecurity has spread, affecting both ordinary citizens and families connected to former government officials.
Atiku urged the Tinubu administration to move away from a reactive response to insecurity and instead adopt a strong, intelligence-based security strategy.
He said such a plan is needed to dismantle kidnapping networks, protect vulnerable communities, and restore public trust in the government’s ability to keep citizens safe.
